Love and Obedience |
|
One of the most misunderstood words we humans employ is the term love. Even those who claim to be Christians often are blind to the various misconceptions surrounding that most precious word. Yes, love is the true word of God as manifested in Jesus. Often, however, we feel that love implies that we are entitled to receive all benefits and all pleasure that exists. Unfortunately, we ignore our obligations to other in pursuit of our own often misguided vision of happiness. This is because we ignore and often reject God's attempts to reach us in His true love that enables His servants to witness to other humans. But in our own power - much as we would think otherwise - we cannot either receive or give love. That is why it is essential that we wait on the Lord, expecting to obey Him in all ways, regardless of our comfort or lack of it. In the state of obedience, we learn that Our Lord, Christ Jesus is, among other offices, our heavenly prophet, our everlasting King as well as our heavenly Rock who sends His all embracing love into our souls. Then we feel a real connection to the Lord as individuals and as a corporate body. As a result of waiting on Christ, we are often moved to encourage our friends to receive the gift of love from the Lord. To put it succinctly, through our obedience to God, we become imbued in His precious gift.
