To Families Interested in Adoption

Forwarded by Charles Rathmann

Dear Families:

We are always so pleased to make good adoptive family placements for infants in homes such as your own.   Unfortunately infant placements do not come that often.  At times we have the opportunity to place children of color.  We recognize that in society it is not easy to accept the challenges that exist when consideration is made to become a trans-racial family.  We had two excellent families this year who accepted such parenting without hesitation.  We acknowledge that this is not something that all parents can do.

At this time I am requesting that our LCFS families let other Christian families know of our need.  We are very limited at this time in the number of families ready to adopt children of color, especially African-American infants.

Some adoptive families have indicated that they would accept a bi-racial infant and we are very pleased about that.  Although we would love each of you to consider the African American infant, we will not put you on the spot in a discussion about a child that might be waiting unless you have indicated to us in advance that you would accept an African American infant at this time.

Our other general criteria would be that the family be Christian (Catholics and Protestants) and be married.  I hesitate to state a specific age range because we want to be flexible about our typical criteria when making African American infant placements.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this request whether it be for your family or should you wish to inform me about another family.  The prospective family will need to contact me
at the numbers or e-mail below.

Thank you all so very much for your help in this matter.
