The Jesus Film / Video

The Jesus film is a 1978 release.  Noted British Shakespearean actor Brian Deacon stars as Jesus.  Backers spent some $6 million on the original film.  It is based closely on the Gospel According to Luke, and virtually all the lines spoken by Jesus in the film are taken directly from Scripture.  A team of 500 scholars were reportedly involved in establishing criteria for and producing the script.  The film was originally a project conceived by the late Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade for Christ.

Thanks to the Jesus Film Project, the Jesus film has currently been translated into more than 1,000 languages in several forms, including the film itself, a children's version, and audio versions.  The film is about two hours long.

The children's version employs segments from the original film, set in a framework of contemporary children discussing and witnessing the events depicted.  The children's version is about 30 minutes long.

The film is available for viewing on line.  Click on the buttons below to go to the languages index page for the Jesus film or the children's version.  Once there, select the language you prefer.  The film project site also includes a free download of the player software, to permit you to view the film.
